1. How does an individual’s definition of “need” and “want” influence his/her notion of success?

In my opinion, my leader of country, Ho Chi Minh, had achieved success of releasing Viet Nam from American’s colony because of his need and want to his country. Ho Chi Minh is a contributor. During the war, he had seen people suffer with starvation, poor and diseases. Their basic need was not met since all their property had been forced to contribute to the war by American soldier. Facing all these real drama stories, Ho Chi Minh had feed his wish of releasing Viet Nam from colony and create a fulfill life for his people since he was young. He said that “helping people is my happiness, your smile is purpose of my life”. At the age of 18, he asked for the jobs on the America biggest luxury board at that time. Being a chief on this board, he was able to move around in the world. Hence, he had the chance to study new things, new language and even the way of how the others colonies become independent country. It took him 10 year for travelling around. Of course, there would be a lot of difficulties on the way of success, Ho Chi Minh had to do a lot jobs beside his main carrier such as teacher, toilet learner, worker in mine. However, all these difficulties did not collapse him because of his high “need” and “want” to his country. He wanted his country become independent and he need to meet the basic need to his own family and his people as well.

2.Explain how people’s difference in their definitions of success influence the way they lead their lives?

1. Generally, there are six types of people on the way to success. They are puritan, materialistic, power, spiritual, contributor and escapist. These definitions of success influence the way people lead their lives. For example, puritan people always think they never satisfy with what they have. Hence, they have to work as hard as possible to obtain what they expect in their life. So this life seems very stressful and tired because there is no relax time. However, materialistic people think in the different way. They think that the most important in the world is money and products. As long as people try very hard to work, they end up with earning money and buying products. In the other hand, spiritual people think that the most important thing in the world is not money, it should be the love. Money cannot buy the love and people cannot live without it. So that this type of people live in a romantic way and receive many intangible value the life. Another intangible thing in the world many people are chasing is power. They want to feel that everyone respect them and always give them support. In my opinion, this type of people seems very lonely but they are talent people. Contributor and escapist are almost the same. They both doing the only things they feel fun and useful. . Our time on earth is meant to lived to the fullest and we are meant to “live deep and suck out all the marrow of life,” as Thoreaux famously espoused. Contributor get the other happiness be their own happiness.
